Everything about AI virtual try-on, the Trends app, privacy, pricing, and how to get the best results.

Virtual Try-On Technology

How AI virtual try-on works and how it differs from AR.

What is virtual try-on?

Virtual try-on is a technology that lets you see how clothes look on you without physically wearing them. It uses photos of you and AI image generation to render a piece of clothing onto your body, so you can preview an outfit before buying, browsing your wardrobe, or planning a look for an event. Modern virtual try-on tools work entirely from a phone or web browser and do not require a physical fitting room, a special camera, or a brand-specific app.

How does AI virtual try-on work?

AI virtual try-on works by combining computer vision with generative image models. The system first analyzes a photo of you to understand body shape, pose, and lighting, then synthesizes a new image where the chosen garment appears realistically draped on your body. Trends uses Google generative AI models to produce these try-ons, then refines the result so the fabric, fit, and silhouette look natural rather than pasted on. The process happens in the cloud and typically completes in ten to thirty seconds.

What is the difference between AR try-on and AI virtual try-on?

AR try-on overlays a 3D model of a garment onto a live camera feed, while AI virtual try-on generates a static photorealistic image of you wearing the garment. AR is interactive and great for items that fit a fixed shape like sneakers, sunglasses, or watches, because each item needs a 3D asset created in advance. AI try-on works on a much wider range of clothing including dresses, jackets, and full outfits because it does not require a 3D model for each piece. Trends uses the AI approach so any garment with a clean photo can be tried on instantly.

How accurate is virtual try-on?

AI virtual try-on is accurate enough for visual decisions like color, silhouette, and overall styling, but it is not a substitute for measuring fit. The result reflects what the garment looks like on your body shape, including color match and rough proportion, but exact sizing and how fabric stretches still depend on the brand size chart. For style and shopping decisions accuracy is typically high, especially with a clear front-facing reference photo. For tailored fit decisions you should still check the brand measurements or order a known size.

Is virtual try-on the same as a virtual fitting room?

Yes, virtual try-on and virtual fitting room describe the same idea. Both terms refer to technology that lets you preview clothing on yourself digitally. Some retailers use "fitting room" for in-store mirrors with AR overlays, while "virtual try-on" usually refers to phone or web experiences you can use anywhere. Trends is a virtual try-on app that works on your phone, tablet, or browser, so you can try clothes from any location with internet access.

Can AI really show clothes on my body realistically?

Yes, modern AI virtual try-on produces photorealistic results that respect your body shape, the garment drape, and the lighting in your reference photo. Quality depends on the source photos: a well-lit front-facing photo of you in fitted clothing produces the best results, and a clean product shot of the garment helps the AI understand color and texture. Loose layers, blurry photos, or extreme angles reduce accuracy. Trends provides on-screen tips when you upload to help you get the cleanest possible result.

Using Trends

How to upload photos, try on clothes, and save your looks.

How do I try on clothes virtually with Trends?

To try on clothes virtually with Trends, open the app, tap Try-On, upload a photo of yourself, then add the clothing you want to preview by uploading a product photo or picking from the Trends discovery feed. The AI generates a new image of you wearing that piece in about ten to thirty seconds. You can save the result to your history, share it, or add it to a collection. First-time users get on-screen tips about photo quality to help the first try-on look great.

Do I need to take a photo of myself?

Yes, you need at least one photo of yourself for virtual try-on to work. Trends recommends a well-lit, front-facing photo where your body is fully visible against a clean background. You can reuse the same reference photo across many try-ons, and you control which photos are stored, shared, or deleted at any time from Settings.

Can I try on clothes from any brand?

Yes, you can try on clothes from any brand. Add the garment by uploading a product photo, pasting a product link, taking a screenshot from social media, or choosing from a clothing item already shared in the Trends discovery feed. Trends does not require an official brand partnership to try on a piece, which means independent designers, fast fashion, luxury, and vintage all work the same way.

Can I upload my own clothing photos?

Yes, you can upload your own clothing photos. Use product shots from a retailer, photos of items you already own, or screenshots from social media. The cleaner the source photo, ideally a flat lay or a model wearing the item against a plain background, the better the try-on result. Trends remembers items you upload so you can rebuild your physical wardrobe digitally and mix and match looks over time.

How long does a virtual try-on take?

A virtual try-on in Trends usually takes ten to thirty seconds depending on image complexity, account tier, and current server load. You can keep browsing the app while a try-on is processing and you receive a notification when it is ready. Premium subscribers get higher processing priority and typically see results at the faster end of that range.

Can I save and share try-on results?

Yes, every try-on is automatically saved to your private history and you can share results to social media, send them directly to a friend, or post them to the Trends community feed. You control what stays private and what is shared at any moment. Try-ons can also be exported as a standard image file to use anywhere outside the app.

Can I add try-ons to a collection?

Yes, any try-on can be added to a collection you own. Collections are curated boards of looks, pieces, and try-ons, organized however you like, by event, season, color, or aesthetic. They are private by default and can be made shareable when you want to send a mood board to a friend or stylist. There is no limit on how many collections you can build.

Privacy & Safety

Photo storage, data rights, GDPR, CCPA, and KVKK compliance.

Are my photos safe with Trends?

Yes, your photos are stored on encrypted infrastructure and are only accessible from your account unless you choose to share them. Trends does not sell your photos to advertisers and does not use your photos to train third-party AI models without your consent. You can delete any photo, any try-on, or your entire account at any time from Settings.

Where are my try-on photos stored?

Try-on photos are stored on Trends encrypted cloud infrastructure, hosted on Supabase with regional storage zones, with access limited to your authenticated account. We retain photos so you can revisit and reuse past try-ons across sessions and devices. One-tap deletion is available for individual photos and try-ons, and full account deletion removes all stored media within 30 days.

Can I delete my photos and data?

Yes, you can delete individual photos, individual try-ons, or your entire account and all associated data. Account deletion removes your photos, try-ons, collections, social activity, and personal information from active servers immediately, with backup removal completed within 30 days. Find the controls in Settings under Manage Account, or email privacy@trends.house for assistance.

Is Trends GDPR, CCPA, and KVKK compliant?

Yes, Trends is built to comply with the European GDPR, California CCPA, and Turkish KVKK personal data laws. You have the right to access, export, correct, and delete your personal data, and to object to specific processing. Submit data requests through in-app support or by emailing privacy@trends.house. Full details on data handling, retention, and your rights live in the Privacy Policy at trends.house/privacy.

Can I use Trends without uploading a photo of my face?

Yes, you can use Trends with photos that do not show your face. Many users upload body-only photos, photos taken at an angle that crops the face, or photos with sunglasses. The AI works primarily from body shape, pose, and silhouette, so face visibility is not required for the try-on to render correctly.

Is Trends safe for minors?

Trends is intended for users age 13 and older, with stricter content controls applied to users under 18. Anyone under 13 should not create a Trends account. Parents who want a full picture of data practices for younger users can review the Privacy Policy at trends.house/privacy or contact privacy@trends.house with specific questions.

How much does Trends Premium cost?

Devices & Requirements

Supported devices, operating systems, and network needs.

What devices does Trends work on?

Trends works on iPhone and iPad running iOS 15 or later, Android phones and tablets running Android 8 or later, and any modern web browser including Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge. You do not need special hardware; a recent smartphone or a laptop with internet access is enough. Try-on processing runs in the cloud, so the heaviest work happens on our servers rather than your device.

Do I need internet to use Trends?

Yes, Trends needs an internet connection because AI try-on processing runs in the cloud. A standard Wi-Fi or 4G connection is sufficient, and 5G simply makes uploads and downloads faster. Saved try-ons remain visible offline so you can browse past results without a connection, but generating new try-ons requires connectivity.

Does Trends work on older phones?

Yes, Trends works on most phones from the last five to six years. Older devices may scroll the feed slightly slower or take longer to render large image galleries, but try-on generation runs on Trends servers so device performance is not a bottleneck for the AI itself. As long as your phone runs iOS 15 or Android 8, you can use the app.

Use Cases

Weddings, online shopping, content creation, and styling.

Can I use Trends to plan outfits for a wedding or date?

Yes, Trends is widely used to plan outfits for weddings, dates, job interviews, vacations, and other special events. Build a collection of candidate looks, try each one on yourself, and narrow down to the final outfit with confidence. Many users build dedicated collections named after the event, like "Anna wedding" or "Italy trip," so they can revisit and refine the plan over weeks.

Can I try on clothes before buying online?

Yes, that is one of the most common reasons people use Trends. Paste or screenshot a product photo from any online store, try it on yourself, and decide before checking out. This helps reduce returns and the regret of clothes that look very different on you than on the model, which is one of the biggest pain points of online fashion shopping.

Can content creators and influencers use Trends?

Yes, Trends is a strong fit for fashion creators who want to preview outfits before a shoot, plan content series, or showcase upcoming hauls to followers. The shareable try-on outputs work well as Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest content, and Premium gives creators higher resolution and faster turnaround for production work. Creators can also post try-ons to the Trends community feed and grow an audience on the platform itself.

Can professional stylists use Trends?

Yes, professional stylists use Trends to mock up looks for clients, present options before pulling physical pieces, and build mood boards as shareable collections. Premium gives stylists unlimited try-ons and higher resolution outputs that hold up in client presentations and lookbooks. The collection sharing feature lets stylists send a curated edit to a client with one link.

For Brands & Developers

Brand partnerships, integrations, and roadmap.

Does Trends have an API or Shopify integration?

A public API and a Shopify integration are on the Trends roadmap. Brands, platforms, and developers interested in early access can email partners@trends.house to be added to the pilot list. Today, integration happens through the Trends discovery feed and curated brand listings, which already drive try-on traffic to participating brands.
